Myth Buster: Retired Doesn't Mean You Can't Borrow

Myth: "I'm retired, so I can't borrow."

Well, not necessarily.

Many retirees are actually in a very strong financial position. Home paid off, substantial super, defined benefit or investment income, and significant assets.

While lending in retirement can require a different approach, there are lenders and structures that may work for the right client.

Where two professions add real value

This is where financial planners and mortgage brokers working together make the difference:

  • Financial planner: does borrowing make sense within the retirement strategy?
  • Mortgage broker: which lender and loan structure can make that strategy work?

A "no" from one bank does not necessarily mean you cannot borrow.

For strong retirees, the conversation is worth having.

Lending in retirement requires a clear repayment or exit strategy, and it can affect pension eligibility and estate plans. Worth working through with a licensed financial adviser alongside us.
